In a surprising late-night development following the opening practice session for the Indianapolis 500, reports emerged that Katherine Legge will attempt the rare Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double this year. Motorsport.com has independently confirmed the news.

The 45-year-old driver is already confirmed for the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, piloting the No. 11 HMD Motorsports/AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet for her fifth appearance in the storied event. Now, it has been revealed that she also plans to compete in the 67th running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the same day, Sunday, May 24. If successful and weather permits, Legge will become the sixth driver in history to complete both races in a single day. She will also be the first woman, the first non-American driver, and the oldest to attempt the double.

“Very few drivers ever get the opportunity to attempt ‘The Double,’ and I do not take that opportunity lightly,” Legge said in a press release. “This challenge is about pushing through perceived limits, betting on yourself, taking risks, and trying to do something unique. I am so incredibly grateful to e.l.f. Cosmetics for believing in what this moment represents and for building a community around it.”
Legge made her eighth career NASCAR Cup Series start the previous weekend at Watkins Glen and will again drive the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet at Charlotte Motor Speedway next weekend. e.l.f. Cosmetics will fund the effort, building on its existing support for her Indy 500 campaign this year.

Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is the most recent driver to attempt the 1,100-mile double between IndyCar’s biggest race and NASCAR’s longest. Other drivers who have attempted it include Robby Gordon, John Andretti, Kurt Busch, and Tony Stewart, who is the only driver to complete every lap, achieving that feat in 2001. Davy Jones also tried in 1995 but failed to qualify for the 600.
Before last weekend’s Cup race at Watkins Glen, Legge expressed interest in attempting the double but noted it would depend on sponsorship and support from e.l.f. Cosmetics. The deal has come together far sooner than expected, with the attempt materializing within two weeks of race day.

Legge’s best finish in the Indy 500 came in 2012, when she placed 22nd. Although she only made her Cup debut just over a year ago, she has completed several oval races in America’s top stock car series. Her best result came in the 2025 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis, finishing 17th in the best non-drafting result ever for Live Fast Motorsports. This will be her first Coca-Cola 600, though she ran the NASCAR O’Reilly race at the track last May.
While Legge is locked into the Indy 500 field with no bumping this year, the official number of Coca-Cola 600 entries will be released next Monday, determining whether she must qualify her way into the NASCAR race.
