Fifteen-year-old Sun Xinran continued her outstanding form, winning five consecutive matches to claim the title at the Plovdiv J300 event. In the final, she dominated with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Serbia’s Tsvetkovic, who is ranked 14th in the junior world rankings. This marks Sun’s first J300 clay court championship and her second singles title of the season.

With this victory, Sun Xinran’s junior world ranking has jumped to a career-high No. 7. The 15-year-old continues to break new ground, showcasing immense talent and potential on the court.
This title is also the ninth ITF singles championship of Sun’s career. Throughout the tournament, she displayed overwhelming dominance: a 6-1, 6-0 sweep in the first round, a 6-1, 6-4 win in the second, a 7-6(4), 6-4 quarterfinal victory against 7th seed Anita, and a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 semifinal win over Bercina.

In the final, Sun faced Tsvetkovic and was in complete control, taking the first set 6-4 and then cruising through the second set 6-1, allowing her opponent just one game. This victory once again proved Sun’s strong dominance at the junior level.
At just 15, she has already climbed to No. 7 in the junior world rankings, with plenty of room to grow. Among active Chinese female tennis players, seven have previously broken into the junior top 10. Zheng Qinwen reached a junior high of No. 6, Wang Xinyu peaked at No. 2, while Xu Shilin and Wang Xiyu both held the No. 1 junior ranking. Zheng Saisai once ranked seventh, and Bai Zhuoxuan reached ninth.
Sun’s most notable achievement so far is winning the 2025 Orange Bowl U18 girls’ singles title, becoming the first Chinese female tennis player to earn that honor. Zheng Qinwen was the runner-up in 2018, losing to Coco Gauff in the final.
With two years of junior eligibility remaining, Sun has the potential to climb even higher, possibly reaching the world No. 1 junior ranking. Her immediate goal is to win a junior Grand Slam singles title.
Along with Sun Xinran, Shao Yushan, Zhang Ruien, and Qu Yihan have entered the main draw of the French Open junior event, while Lin Yujun and Wei Zhangqian have qualified for the qualifying rounds. This signals a new era of blossoming young Chinese female tennis players, with Sun currently leading the pack.
However, Sun still needs to address her weaknesses, particularly her physical stamina. At this year’s Australian Open junior event, she squandered a lead in the quarterfinals due to fatigue. She must draw inspiration from Zheng Qinwen and Wang Xinyu, who have succeeded at the senior level. Chinese women’s tennis has seen many promising juniors fail to meet expectations on the pro tour, but Sun Xinran is determined to continue evolving and making her mark.
